Figure 1 Illustration of Ban k sNote: A slope of 45 degrees may also be expressed as 100 percent slope or a 1:1 slope.Banks means that land area immediately adjacent to and which slopes toward thebed of a watercourse and which is necessary to maintain the integrity of awatercourse. A bank will not be considered to extend more than 50 feet horizontallyfrom the mean high water line, with the following exception: Where a generallyuniform slope of 45 degrees (100%) or greater adjoins the bed of the watercourse, thebank is extended to the crest of the slope or the first definable break in slope, either anatural or constructed (i.e., road or railroad grade) feature, lying generally parallel tothe watercourse.
